Sean Long outlines head coach ambitions and reveals growing affection for Leeds Rhinos

Sean Long has reiterated his desire to become a head coach - but insists he has no plans to leave his role at Leeds Rhinos in the near future.

Long, one of the finest players of his generation, is currently acting as assistant coach to Richard Agar at Headingley.

The 45-year-old has never shied away from his aspirations of becoming a head coach. So far, his coaching career has seen him also act as an assistant at St Helens and Salford while also transitioning to rugby union.

Internationally he has been part of the coaching staff with both the Samoa and France, setting him up for a big role in the future.

Yet he is in no rush, either. Long is enjoying his time with the Rhinos so much he has permanently relocated to the city.

"I like it that much I've moved over and bought a house in Leeds," he said.

"It's a good city, great club, great staff and good people. The fans are great too, it's just an all round good club, I'm wanting to stay there as long as I can.

"The fans are class. You know what, it's funny how much you miss them when they aren't there. You don't realise with Covid how much you miss the fans, if you look at our season, it went on the up when the fans came back.

"I'm definitely going to be a head coach at some point, but there's no rush, I'm enjoying what I'm doing. I'm still young, Sheensy and that are still coaching, so I have time yet!

"When you jump into it you can be in the firing line, as long as I'm enjoying what I'm doing, which I am, that's great. At some point a head coaching role will come up and I'll take it, but I'm happy at Leeds."
