Sean Cox returns to local GAA club St Peter's Dunboyne for first time since Anfield attack

Sean Cox made his long-awaited return to his local GAA club over the weekend to watch Liverpool defeat Wolves in the Premier League.

The Dunboyne man, who was left with serious brain injuries when he was attacked outside Anfield in April 2018, returned to St Peter's GAA Club.

Sean has needed extensive rehabilitation since the assault over 18 months ago and requires ongoing care from his wife and family.

And it seems that it was a triumphant return for Sean and his family to the club where he watched his favourite Premier League team pick up a 1-0 win leaving Liverpool 13 points clear at the top of the table.

Sharing pictures of the visit, St Peter's GAA Dunboyne said they were "delighted" to welcome him back.

They said: "Delighted to welcome Sean Cox and his family back to the Club this afternoon.

"A day he, and we, have been waiting for.

"Great to see him back in familiar surroundings."

Sean met his Liverpool heroes at Anfield in November, in his first visit to the ground following the attack.

Images of Sean shown on the big screen during the game and sparked a rousing ovation from both sets of fans.

Sean also met manager Jurgen Klopp as well as Reds legend Ian Rush during the visit.

Liverpool's all-time leading goalscorer Rush posed for a photo with a smiling Cox and said meeting the dad of three was the highlight of his day.
