Seahawks sign 2 tight ends ahead of Saturday’s scrimmage

The Seahawks announced a number of roster moves ahead of Saturday’s mock game at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell.

Seattle has swapped a couple of tight ends, signing Jackson Harris and Wes Saxton to the 90-man roster and waiving/injured tight ends Tyrone Swoopes and Justin Johnson to make room.

Johnson suffered an injury and coach Pete Carroll confirmed the unfortunate news following practice Thursday.

“I’m afraid that he might have gotten the Achilles today,” Carroll said. “It’s one of those freaky injuries. He’s out in open space and takes a step and that pop happens. We’ve never been able to explain why that happens. It’s somewhat of a devastating injury because it takes so long, it takes nine months or whatever to get back. If that’s what it is, then he’ll be working at it for some time. It’s very unfortunate.”

Harris participated in Seattle’s rookie minicamp as a tryout player earlier this spring after going undrafted out of Georgia.

Saxton, originally an undrafted free agent from South Alabama, first signed with the Jets in 2015 and logged one game. Since then, has spent time in Washington, Buffalo, Detroit and San Francisco.

Before the league folded, Saxton played for the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football.

Seattle will hold its scrimmage Saturday afternoon from 1:30-3:30.
