Seahawks rookie DK Metcalf impresses on and off the field

Even after slipping to the end of the second round of the NFL Draft, Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf didn’t lack hype. A lot of the excitement surrounding his name came courtesy of his freakish performance at the NFL combine.

Metcalf’s combination of size and speed were destined to make him a dangerous weapon anywhere on the field. The six-foot-four, 229-pound receiver ran an outstanding 4.33 40-yard dash.

Halfway through his rookie year, he isn’t disappointing.

Metcalf has four touchdowns on 23 receptions and 402 yards through the first eight weeks of his debut campaign. On top of that, he leads the NFL with end zone targets.

Above all that, he fit in with his teammates who feel like they might have been overlooked on their draft day.

“I think he had a chip on his shoulder and [is] just ready to roll,” quarterback Russell Wilson said of his rookie receiver. “He’s everything that you want him to be. High character, extremely amazing work ethic. Obviously, a ball player.”

It seems the freakish athleticism is just the tip of the iceberg. Metcalf puts the work in off the field to continue working towards his potential.

“[Metcalf] has a relentless approach to the game when he’s playing and also when he’s practicing and studying film,” Wilson continued. “He takes great notes. All those things that you want a guy to be, he’s definitely that. I’m glad he’s on our team.”

This might be Metcalf’s rookie year, but it seems he fits in well among his Seahawks teammates.

He will look to add to his end zone target total, among his other stats, on Sunday in Seattle’s Week 9 matchup against the Buccaneers.
