Seahawks preparing for Ed Dickson to play this week

The Seattle Seahawks got some good news on Monday, with coach Pete Carroll confirming that veteran tight end Ed Dickson (knee) will return to the practice field this week, and he is planning to be active for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

“He’s gonna go this week,” Carroll said on Monday. “We’re bringing Ed back. Giving him a chance to practice with a chance to play. We’ve worked him really hard leading up to this time through his rehab. He’s been preparing for the workload. Very optimistic that he could [play], if he can make it through the week. We gotta see how he handles the workload. We don’t know about that yet. But his mindset is on playing.”

Dickson, 32, was placed on the injured reserve before the season for the second year in a row. Last year, he returned in Week 8 and finished with 12 receptions (on 13 targets) for 143 yards and three touchdowns – while also giving Seattle a reliable run blocker up front.

His return this year comes at a much-needed time, following the season-ending achilles injury suffered by Will Dissly – which has left Seattle thin at the position.

Luke Willson and Jacob Hollister have filled in admirably in Dissly’s absence, but having Dickson in the fold gives Seattle a strong blocker and a known presence in the red zone, something they are lacking without Dissly.

Dickson’s status will be updated throughout the week, but there’s a real possibility he makes his season debut on Sunday when the Seahawks host the Buccaneers.
