Seahawks must trim roster to 53 players by Saturday’s deadline

After wrapping up the preseason with a win over the Oakland Raiders Thursday night, the Seattle Seahawks have some hard choices to make over the next few days.

By 1:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, all 32 teams around the league must trim their rosters from 90 to just 53 players.

“We have some extremely difficult decisions at this time, and it will take us all weekend to figure it out,” coach Pete Carroll said of the cutdowns. “That’s exactly what we want. We want it to be like that. We want it to be really hard and challenging, with complexities and all of that. We’re set up and organized to move into this weekend, with a lot of good information. You’ll see. You’ll see what happens.”

The initial 53-man squad is by no means the final roster as the Seahawks front office will undoubtedly be looking to the waiver wire in the hopes of finding a gem or two who might have slipped through the cracks.

In addition, the Seattle can begin to form its 10-man practice squad as of Sunday.
