Seahawks hope to extend dominance vs. Falcons at Lumen Field

The Seahawks are back home in the friendly confines of Lumen Field, and they will host an NFC foe who hasn’t made the trip northwest for quite some time. The Falcons are back in the Emerald City for the first time since the 2017 season.

Seattle leads Atlanta 12-6 in the all time regular season series and have won the last two games. However, both of those games were played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The last time these teams met at Lumen Field, it wasn’t even called Lumen Field.

The Seahawks hosted the Falcons on Monday Night Football to cap off Week 11. It was the third time in two years these two teams would play each other, following a 36-20 Atlanta playoff victory in the Divisional Round and a 26-24 Seahawks victory in Week 6 of the 2016 season.

Atlanta was fresh off their disastrous meltdown in Super Bowl LI, blowing a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots, and were looking to get back on track. They came into Seattle and had their way with the Seahawks in the first half, leading 21-7 early in the second quarter. The Seahawks would fight back but ultimately fell 34-31 after Blair Walsh’s 52-yard field goal attempt fell short.

Since then, the Falcons and Seahawks look drastically different. The biggest is the fact neither quarterback from that game are still on their teams. Russell Wilson has moved to Denver and Matt Ryan is now with the Indianapolis Colts.

Now it is a showdown between Geno Smith and Marcus Mariota.
