Scotto: Dallas Mavericks ‘have interest’ in signing Celtics forward Grant Williams

As the NBA’s 2023 offseason begins to hit its stride, word of another potential suitor for the talents of reserve Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams emerges. According to new reporting from Hoops Hype’s Michael Scotto, the Dallas Mavericks are the “latest team to have interest in Williams” in free agency.

Scotto also notes that the Celtics are “expected to tender a $6.2 million qualifying offer to make Grant Williams a restricted free agent this summer,” though, as the Hoops Hype reporter notes, that is not slowing down “other teams across the league from reportedly having interest in going after him”.

Another point worth considering is that both the Charlotte native and Mavericks star Luke Doncic share an agent in WME Sports.

It remains to be seen how serious any of these teams are in pursuing Williams outright given Boston can simply match their offer sheet barring an exceptionally large overpay for the Tennessee alum’s services.

But with the Celtics rumored to be interested in a sign-and-trade for Williams, that doesn’t mean he is a lock to return to the Celtics, either.
