Scottish SPCA open sensory garden for dogs at Milton Centre

A new sensory garden for dogs opens at Milton’s animal rescue centre today (Tuesday).

The space has been created at the Scottish SPCA facility for pooches to aid the rehabilitation for those that have been mistreated or neglected.

The charity say many dogs who come into their care are under-socialised without basic learned behaviours - especially dogs rescued from puppy farms that have never known life outside a kennel.

The sensory garden will provide a safe space where a dog can enjoy textures and scents to stimulate senses.

The garden has been created by one of the Scottish SPCA’s volunteers with support from other staff members and volunteers.

Assistant manager of the centre Kim Mackrell said: “The idea behind the garden is to provide dogs with sensory stimulation they will never have experienced. We’ve designed this area to incorporate as many different experiences including a safe, quiet space for the dogs.”
