A HIGHLANDS primary school which has been mothballed for three years is officially set to close permanently.
Kinlochewe Primary School, near Achnasheen in Wester Ross, was closed by the local authority in June 2022, with pupils transferred to Gairloch Primary, which is about 20 miles away.
The Highland Council said they decided to mothball the school as there were not enough children “of suitable age” for it to remain open.
On Wednesday, Scottish Ministers notified the Highland Council that they can proceed with their decision to close the school permanently.
A statement from the Highland Council said: “Scottish Ministers have notified The Highland Council that the Council can proceed with its decision to close Kinlochewe Primary School, which has been mothballed since July 2022. This follows a decision taken by the Council on 26 June 2025.
“As the school is already mothballed, the decision will be implemented immediately.”
