A NATIONAL park in the Highlands has unexpectedly been dusted with snowfall over the weekend following multiple warm days with glorious sunshine.
The mountains in the Cairngorm National Park were surprisingly covered in snow on Sunday as the sunny spring weather is expected to cool off over the next few days.
Hillwalkers were seen clearing their car windows after the light snow dump on Sunday morning, as others were seen playfully throwing snowballs at each other.
According to the Met Office, Scotland had one of its sunniest Aprils on record and the good weather is set to continue next week, with the mercury sitting at around 18 °C as it is set to warm up after a chillier weekend.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tony Wisson explained: “The recent very warm weather for the time of year is subsiding over the weekend as a weak cold front moves over the UK. We expect cooler temperatures as the front pushes south.
“This cooler air will also help introduce isolated showers across eastern parts, but it should stay drier further west.

“Sunday will feel much cooler compared to recent days, with temperatures falling slightly below average for the time of year. We can expect mid-to-low double figures for many, and even single figures for those further north.”
