Scottish man makes homemade bread on camping fire and shares delicious recipe

A Scottish wild camper has revealed how to make bread over a fire while out in the wildernes.

Colin Russell, from Ayr, has been exploring Scotland's hills and valleys since he was 14 and has learned some useful survival tricks while on his adventures.

The 45-year-old grabs every opportunity to sleep in the great outdoors and cook over a campfire - and recently tried baking bread.

The simple recipe is perfect for those who want to dip their toe into wild camping.

Colin, who documents his trips on YouTube, started by lighting a fire which he let burn down to form hot coals at the base.

For the bread mix, he used 500g of flour, two tablespoons of yeast, two teaspoons of salt, 300ml of water and some olive oil - which he prepped in advance.

He then placed the mixture into a cast iron dutch oven lined with parchment paper.

This pan was placed into the middle of campfire's burning embers for half an hour, with sticks placed on top to ensure it baked evenly.

Producing the final product, Colin unveiled beautifully golden brown bread baked to perfection which he spread with butter and jam.

Colin told the Record: "I'm out every weekend wild camping and campfire cooking.

I've been wild camping since I was 14. I just love the great outdoors and try and get out at every opportunity, good for the soul as they say."

Colin lives by the 'leave no trace' ethos and encourages people to always clean up when they are exploring the great outdoors.

He added: "We live in such a beautiful country and its saddening to see people leave their rubbish and waste in some of the stunning areas Scotland has to offer."
