Scottish Government confirms one death and 45 new cases of Covid-19 in Dundee

The Scottish Government has confirmed there was one further coronavirus death reported in Dundee in the last 24 hours.

Data from Public Health Scotland also shows that 45 new cases were recorded overnight in the city.

The city's death toll - composed of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - now sits at 295.

In total, Dundee has recorded 21,049 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The latest local vaccination data shows that 85.8% of the over-16 population have received at least one coronavirus vaccination, and 78.9% have received at least two.

Around 49.6% of city children aged 12 to 15 have also received at least one Covid jab.

The Scottish Government has confirmed that 27 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours,

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 2,566 new cases had also been identified overnight.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 9,099.

There are currently 925 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 57 being treated in intensive care.

To date 4,311,339 people have received their first vaccination with 3,899,153 having a second jab.

The figures come as Nicola Sturgeon has been called on to speed up the roll-out of covid booster jags after claims 100,000 Scots who were eligible for a third dose of vaccine had not yet received it.

The First Minister insisted that “good progress” was being made with the boosters- which are often being given at the same time as people receive their flu vaccination.

More than 500,000 Scots have already had a third dose of Covid-19 vaccine to increase their immunity levels against the virus, she said.

But Labour and Tory leaders pressed her on the more than 100,000 Scots who had their second dose at least six months ago but are still waiting for their third jag.
