Scottish Government announces two deaths and 5,593 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government have confirmed two people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The death toll since March 2020 – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – is now 10,433.

The latest figures for Scotland showed 5,593 new cases had also been identified overnight.

There are currently 958 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 24 being treated in intensive care.

So far 4,421,427 people have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination, 4,135,751 given a second dose and 3,317,694 have received a third dose or booster.

It comes after the Sunday Mail revealed not a single investigation into the thousands of deaths from Covid-19 in Scotland’s care homes has been completed since the criminal probe was launched almost two years ago.

The Crown, which has already spent more than £1.5million, has failed to conclude any one of the 4,888 cases.

Many of the bereaved families, who have heard nothing from investigators, believe it could be years before they get to the truth.

Caroline Grattan said the government-sanctioned policy of discharging Covid patients from hospitals into homes could have been responsible for her 88-year-old mum Margaret’s death.
