Scottish Government announces 76 new coronavirus deaths and 1,307 cases

There have been 76 new coronavirus deaths recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

The Scottish Government has announced there were 1,307 new cases of Covid-19 reported overnight.

2,085 people are in hospital while 159 are being treated in intensive care.

It comes as 380,667 people have now received their first vaccinated across Scotland, and 5,188 have received their second.

Today also marks one year since the first people in Scotland were tested for coronavirus.

On January 23, 2020, the Scottish Government confirmed that five people were being examined after showing symptoms of the virus.

Scientists fear the coronavirus vaccine could be less likely to work against new strains of the virus as they know less about how transmissible they are.

Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance warned of the fears at Friday's Downing Street press conference.
