The latest figures for Scotland showed that 7,056 new Covid cases had also been identified overnight.

There are currently 960 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 10 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 1,333,332.

To date 4,430,717 people have received their first vaccination with 4,148,237 having a second jab and 3,377,893 have received a third dose or booster.

The figures come as a study has suggested that suffering from Covid may make you more likely to experience depression and anxiety.

Experts have suggested that coronavirus is linked with an increased risk of mental health problems, which also included substance use and sleep problems, up to a year after infection.

The research included data collected from 153,848 people who were previously infected with Covid, comparing them with 560,000 participants with no history of the virus.

The study also looked at data from a further large control group from before the pandemic.
