Scottish FA dismiss Kilmarnock's Kyle Vassell red card appeal

Kilmarnock's appeal against Kyle Vassell's red card has been thrown out by the Scottish FA.

The SFA's disciplinary panel have dismissed the Ayrshire side's appeal against John Beaton's decision on Saturday.

The striker was shown a straight red card following a VAR review midway through the second half in Killie's 2-0 loss against Hibs.

Vassell went in for a challenge with Hibs' Marijan Cabraja with his boot high, but with his eyes firmly on the ball.

Beaton has initially brandished a booking to the powerful forward.

However, this was inevitably upgraded once VAR advised the on-field official to look at the incident at the pitch side monitor.

The decision to dismiss Killie's appeal means Vassell will now miss the club's next two matches against Motherwell and Rangers.

A statement from the club reads: "Kilmarnock Football Club can confirm that an appeal against the red card shown to Kyle Vassell at Easter Road last weekend has been dismissed.

"Vassell was sent off for serious foul play in the 68th minute of the cinch Premiership match against Hibernian on Saturday 18th February.

"The rejected appeal means that the forward will start a two-match ban this weekend; missing upcoming fixtures against Motherwell and Rangers."

Killie face Motherwell at Rugby Park on Saturday in what is a huge relegation six-pointer.

If Killie can replicate their formidable home form so far this season, they will bring Motherwell back into the mire at the foot of the Premiership.

However, should the Steelman manage to walk away with three points on their travels, they will put a decent bit of daylight between themselves and those at the bottom; Killie, Ross County and Dundee United.
