Scottish cafe receives 'death threats' following visit from David Cameron

THE owners of a cafe in Glasgow have said they have received “death threats” after they shared an image of the former prime minister David Cameron visiting their business.

Kudos, located in the Finnieston area of the city, shared a photo of Cameron with some of their staff on social media after the ex-Conservative leader stopped to have breakfast at the cafe on Friday.

The owners have said that since sharing the post, which was supposed to be in “lighthearted fun,” they have received “many messages of death threats” and “fake reviews” on the business's Google page.

In the now seemingly deleted post, the owners of Kudos wrote on Friday: “RIGHT nae complaining this weekend because if it’s good enough for @dwdcameron it’s good enough for you!”

The post, which showed Cameron along with three staff members, continued: “Speechless at who joined us for breakfast this morning after seeing us online.

“We’ve had our fair share of stars come through the door and usually just scream with excitement amongst the team & leave guests to dine in peace.

“However, we couldn’t resist this one. Our team looking gorgeous in their Scotland tops ahead of the game … HAPPY FRIDAY.”

However, just hours after the initial post, the owners told followers that the post was not an “endorsement” of their own political values and apologised if the post “upset” anyone.

It went on to state that “none of the hate is affecting David Cameron but two young business owners doing their best in an extreme difficult climate”.

The owners have now pleaded with customers who have visited the cafe and had a good experience to leave a positive review in a bid to counter the wave of “fake reviews”.

A post on Kudos Instagram read: “The faces behind kudos, we opened this small business just over 2 years ago and the people closest to us know how much we’ve given up and put into growing this business.

“We were left speechless this morning to see the former prime minister of the UK choosing to eat at our small cafe and got a picture with him outside of our shop.

“We couldn't believe it, from a couple that haven't come from extreme wealth, private school but your everyday working class background growing up in housing schemes totally shook at having a former UK Prime minister in our shop, the picture was just meant as lighthearted fun, wowed by the vist of a former world leader to their shop.”

The post continued: “Since the post we have received so many messages of death threats and threats to our business. We cannot apologies enough if the post upset people it wasn't an endorsement of our own political values.

“Some individuals have now took to google to fake review our profile because of this.

“We ask if you have genuinely visited our cafe and had a good experience could you please leave a positive review & we apologise again to those we have upset but ask that you see the people and their livelihoods you are affecting, none of the hate is affecting David Cameron but two young business owners doing their best in an extreme difficult climate.”

Cameron led the Conservative Party from 2005 and served as UK prime minister between 2010 and 2016.

He resigned as prime minister following the UK’s decision to leave the EU in the 2016 Brexit referendum. He is now a peer in the House of Lords.
