Scottish BMW driver in terrifying ordeal as car plunges off road into river

A Fife driver was put through a terrifying ordeal today after their car swerved off of the main road and into the river.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene in St Andrews where the BMW had fallen straight into the embankment and was left in an almost vertical position.

Reports of the incident were made in the early hours of this morning, with one local managing to capture a picture of the car in Pipeland Road.

Posted on the Fife Jammer Locations Facebook page, other residents had stated that the driver had been safely recovered from the vehicle, reports the Daily Record.

Police also confirmed that no injuries or casualties came from the freak crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed there were no reports of any injuries.

They added: "Officers attended at Pipeland Road, St Andrews, at 5.50am this morning after reports that a car was in a burn."

In recent days, the Met Office have warned drivers to take care in the area after a yellow weather warning for snow and ice was extended.

Conditions are expected to remain cold and icy in the coming days, with temperatures to hit as low as -2C.
