A SCOTTISH beach has been named one of the best in Europe in a prestigious list.
Entalula Beach in the Philippines topped the latest world’s 50 best beaches ranking by the global media and hospitality brand Time Out.
Also making the cut are beautiful beaches in the Caribbean and South Pacific – including Anguilla, the Dominican Republic, the Cayman Islands, Thailand, the Seychelles and Fiji.
Meanwhile, the outlet also published a separate list ranking the 50 best beaches in Europe.
Making the cut was Achmelvich Beach in Scotland, which was ranked 47th.
Situated around three miles north west of Lochinver in Sutherland, this Highland beach was heralded by Time Out as looking like a “tropical hotspot”.
Time Out writes: "Despite being on the other side of the country, Achmelvich Beach is similar to Kynance Cove in that it – in pictures, at least – better resembles a tropical hotspot than a UK shore. In person, its dunes are a tad chillier, being in the Scottish Highlands.
"But Achmelvich's charms aren't limited to the beach itself. Visitors have even spotted dolphins in the bay, while it's also a short walk to Hermit’s Castle, which is reportedly Europe's smallest fortress."
Europe's top five were led by Greece’s Fteri Beach in first place followed by Cala Macarella (Spain), Cala dei Gabbiani (Italy), Kaputaş (Turkey) and Porto Katsiki (Greece).
This mention of Achmelvich isn’t the first time the beach has been recognised. Conde Nast also mentioned the stunning spot in its own ranking last year – highlighting its clean white sands and clear waters where porpoises swim in the summer.
Europe's smallest castle, Hermit's Castle, also overlooks the beach.
