Scottish BAFTA TV winners 2023 as The Traitors and Slow Horses actor bag gongs

The iconic BAFTA Television Awards took place on Sunday, May 14, in London.

The star-studded event- which was broadcast on BBC One- saw various famous faces bag themselves the impressive accolades.

Reality competition series The Traitors and its host Claudia Winkleman were among the big winners at the TV Baftas.

The show won best reality series while Claudia took the gong for best entertainment performance.

The show, which sees players "murder" each other in a Scottish castle, developed a cult following after it launched in November.

The ceremony, which was hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, saw Winkleman collect the prize for herself and on behalf of The Traitors. She recalled the meeting she had with commissioners ahead of its launch.

"I went, 'OK, just to be clear, we're going to Scotland, we've got some cloaks, we're going to use the word murder, I've got a big rollneck and I'm holding a ceremonial pouch, are you OK with that?' And they went 'go for it'."

She took the opportunity to ask her husband from the stage: "Please, can we have a dog?

Scots star Jack Lowden was also presented with an award for Best Supporting Actor for the Thriller series Slow Horses.

The Apple TV+ series is a highly rated highly-rated British spy series Slow Horses is all set to launch its third season.

The thriller series is based on British novelist, Mick Herron’s Slough House book series.

An episode of The Repair Shop featuring the King which was filmed at Dumfries House picked up the daytime Bafta TV award.

In the one-off special, the repair team including Jay Blades visited Charles at Dumfries House in Scotland for The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit.

Arriving on the stage to accept the gong, Blades said: “Wow, just give me two seconds, I have to take a picture, it’s quite special.

“We started as a daytime show on BBC Two, I’m so glad we’ve got an (award).”

Blades added that it was the “first time” that a “6ft black guy, from Hackney, (with a) gold tooth, (from a) single parent (family)” was presented with an award for daytime TV.

During the show’s episode, Charles saw a bracket clock and a piece made for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee by British ceramics maker Wemyss Ware fixed and also joked and laughed with Blades.

The episode also featured Blades touching Charles’s arm and him returning the gesture by placing a hand on his back.

Speaking to the PA news agency from the red carpet of the Bafta TV awards, Blades said attending the coronation was “magical”.

He said: “It was absolutely magical. It was one of those things when you could walk around London and see no traffic, no tourists and it’s just all about the coronation, just a celebration of the King.

“It was special.”

Blades added that The Repair Shop has a “simple message, but a big message”.

He said: “It’s all about community – there’s a community of us at The Repair Shop and then we’re helping people that we don’t know, so what you’re doing there is you’re actually showing humanity. That’s what the show’s all about.”

The 26-year-old gave his first televised performance of new single Wish You The Best alongside DJ Jax Jones and singer Calum Scott who took to the stage performing their song, Whistle.
