Scots woman convicted of murdering man who died on doorstep of family home jailed for 16 years

A woman convicted of murdering a young man who later died on the doorstep of his family's Renfrewshire home on New Year's Day has been jailed.

Darren Russell, 21, died in Erskine after earlier being attacked by Stephanie Bowie on New Year's Day, 2021.

Last month, Bowie was found guilty of murder, possession of a bladed article and an attempt to defeat the ends of justice at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 29-year-old was sentenced to 16 years behind bars at the High Court in Stirling.

Cops said they hoped the sentencing would bring "a degree of closure" for the young man's loved ones, and that the tragic incident would be used as a warning for others not to indulge in violence or carry weapons.

Chief Inspector Christopher Nisbet, Senior Investigating Officer, said: "Stephanie Bowie is now facing the consequences of her actions.

"I hope this sentence sends a clear message that violence and the carrying of weapons is completely unacceptable.

"Although it can't change what has happened, I hope that this sentence brings at least a degree of closure for Darren's family and friends.

"Our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.

"Police Scotland are committed to bringing perpetrators to justice and we will continue to work closely with our partners to do so."
