Scots thug slashed hood linked to Daniel crime clan with makeshift blade in prison

A serial attacker who slashed a thug linked to the Daniel crime clan in jail is facing a life sentence. Mark McSorley repeatedly struck Kyle Beard with a makeshift double-bladed weapon.

McSorley, 31, attacked Beard in HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow last October 15 as dinner was being served. After being held, McSorley, of Ayr, said: “It is an outside thing.”

Beard, 27, was awaiting sentence at the time for the attempted murder of Francis McCann in Glasgow’s Merchant City in March 2019. Later locked up for five years, Beard stabbed Francis in the neck hours after a Celtic and Rangers match at Parkhead.

It emerged yesterday a neck wound was also one of the injuries the thug suffered after being attacked by McSorley. It is thought he needed 40 stitches. Prosecutor Chris McKenna told the High Court in Glasgow that Beard refused to help police with their investigations.

McSorley was back behind bars having also repeatedly stabbed Ryan Cameron in Ayr on February 8 last year after being freed just months earlier.

Ryan was attacked after a row on social media with a friend of McSorley’s. He was pounced on by three individuals including McSorley, who had a large knife.

Mr McKenna said: “He’d stab wounds – five to the face, abdomen, back and thigh.”

McSorley yesterday admitted assaulting Beard and Ryan to their severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Mr McKenna said the Crown was moving for a risk assessment order to be carried out on McSorley. This could lead to an Order for Lifelong Restriction.

The case was adjourned until October and McSorley was remanded in custody.
