Scots thug punched girlfriend in the head during row over cigarettes

A bully with an appalling record of domestic abuse punched his girlfriend after a row over cigarettes.

Vile Euan McGoldrick, 36, spent the day boozing with his brother at his Seedhill Road flat, in Paisley, before heading to his partner’s place where trouble kicked off.

Procurator fiscal depute Amber Feeney told Paisley Sheriff Court the attack took place on March 25.

She said: “At around 7pm the accused went to his partner, Joanne McGuire’s house and continued to drink alcohol.

“The witness McFarlane and McGuire, as well as the accused were then involved in an argument over money and cigarettes.

“McFarlane left the room leaving the accused and his partner, McGuire, sitting on a mattress in the living room together.

“McGuire and McGoldrick continued to argue, calling each other names.

“McFarlane re-entered the living room as the accused lent over towards McGuire grabbing her with both hands and punched her to the head.

“McFarlane observed this and locked himself in the bathroom to call 999. Police attended and the accused was cautioned and charged and made no reply.”

McGoldrick was also in court to face a charge of threatening to murder his dead mother’s former partner after a funeral arrangement mix up.

Ms Feeney told the court that Tara McInnes was with a friend at a flat in Renshaw Road, Elderslie, in September last year when they heard a banging on the door and a male voice.

She added: “He was shouting through the letterbox, ‘If I see you at the grave, I’m going to murder you.’

“Both stayed quiet so that McGoldrick thought they weren’t in and they waited some time until he left. Thereafter they contacted the police.”

Defence solicitor Terry Gallanagh told the court McGoldrick’s mother passed away and that her partner at the time gave McGoldrick “incorrect” information about the funeral.

He claimed that McGoldrick had missed the funeral as a result.

Mr Gallanagh added: “When he saw the complainer, McInnes, there was a combination of grief and anger and he acted in this way.

“He has expressed his remorse and he absolutely regrets his conduct on both occasions and has asked me to publicly state that.”

Sheriff Lindsay Kooner deferred sentence to assess McGoldrick’s suitability for the domestic abuse programme, ‘Up to You.’

McGoldrick will return to court on May 20, his bail order was continued.
