Scots shopper left outraged after ready meal melted in his oven

Supermarket chain Iceland has said sorry to a Scots shopper over two "stinking" and "disgusting" ready meals which melted in his oven.

Podcaster and TV presenter Craig Stephens, from Portobello, near Edinburgh, was outraged after the chicken curry ready meals were destroyed - despite him following the cooking instructions.

Our sister title, Edinburgh Live, reported that Iceland have refunded the £2 for the meals, but that Craig thinks he deserves a voucher as compensation after the 'disgusting' experience.

Craig, who runs podcast Moreish TV with his wife Debbie, and was a guest at the BAFTA awards, said he was first alerted to the meal disaster by the smell of plastic burning in his kitchen.

He said: "The way this has been treated is disgusting.

"We ordered two chicken curry ready meals from Iceland and cooked correctly with instructions.

"We smelled plastic burning and ran to our kitchen.

"It was stinking and smoky and when we opened the oven the plastic, which should be fine completely, melted onto the oven tray and into our food.

"This could have resulted in a fire - it's bloody dangerous.

"They refunded my £2 but nothing else bloody rude

"Mums go to Iceland to enjoy the food, but Iceland have truly failed us and they should look after customers - after all it is the customers that give that little bit more.

"These people do not care for customers. We could have had a fire. This could have been devastating."

After apologising on Twitter, a spokeswoman from Iceland told Craig: "I have now refunded both items back to your account whilst also raising this issue with Head Office to ensure all of the products suppliers are made aware of this issue."
