Scots schoolboy, 13, tragically dies in hospital after River Gryffe tragedy

A Scots schoolboy who was pulled from the River Gryffe after getting into difficulty has tragically passed away.

The 13-year-old was rescued from the water near Auchans Farm in Houston, Johnstone, around 6.50pm on Wednesday June 2.

He was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where medics described his condition as ‘critical’.

But Police Scotland have announced that the youngster sadly lost his fight for life this morning, Saturday, June 5.

A probe into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy continues.

A force spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a teenage boy in the River Gryffe near to Auchans Farm around 6.50pm on Wednesday, June 2.

“The boy was recovered from the water and was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where he died on Saturday, 5 June, 2021.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
