Scots raise £40,000 to fund IndyRef2 legal fight with Westminster

Campaigners have raised more than £40,000 to fund a legal fight against Westminster over Indyref2 .

Group Forward as One launched an online fundraising page last year.

The Scottish People vs The UK Government on Indyref2 has amassed almost £40,400 in donations.

Organisers say the money raised will be used for legal action against the UK Government if Scotland is forbidden from holding another referendum on independence.

The Crowd Justice page has raised over £40,000 (Crowd Justice)

A statement on the page read: "Forward as One is a pro-independence association dedicated to self-autonomy for Scotland.

"This action is being raised on the back of a promise to do so if prerequisite conditions were met."

The fundraiser comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson rejected Nicola Sturgeon 's request to host a second independence referendum.

We told how Johnson shared an image of the letter he sent to the First Minister on social media.

His reasons for the decision slammed Sturgeon for not 'respecting' the wishes of the Scottish people following the 2014 result.

Johnson also stated that Sturgeon agreed to the referendum being a 'once in a generation' event and slammed IndyRef2 as 'political stagnation' that would leave 'schools, hospitals and jobs' behind.

A furious Sturgeon lambasted the Tories as 'terrified' of Scotland's right to choose and that the decision from number 10, 'will not stand'.

A further statement on the campaign's page read: "It is our intention to lodge an action by ordinary members of Scotlands general population against the UK Government when they refuse or ignore a formal request from the First Minister of Scotland for an order under Section 30 of the Scotland Act to devolve the powers necessary to hold a second independence referendum".

Campaigners plan on hosting a candlelight vigil outside the Scotland Office in Edinburgh this Friday.
