Scots OAP vanishes overnight in Rutherglen sparking frantic police search as concern grows

A frantic police search has been launched for a Scots pensioner who vanished overnight in Rutherglen.

George Shannon has failed to make contact with his family after last being seen in the Main Street area of the town at around 10am on Monday, June 14.

The 83-year-old, who is also known to visit the Toryglen area, is described as being small, of a heavy build and with grey hair.

Officers believe he may be wearing glasses and uses a mobility scooter.

Inspector Paul McDougall, from East Kilbride Police Station, said: "We are concerned that George has not been in contact with his family since Monday morning and are appealing to anyone who may have seen him since this time, or has any knowledge of his whereabouts, to get in touch as soon as possible.

"Please call police on 101, quoting incident 1382 of 15 June."
