Scots nurse left with fractured spine after hit-and-run driver ploughs into car

A Scots nurse has been left with a fractured spine after a callous driver ploughed into the back of her car and fled the scene.

Michelle Wright, from Clydebank, is desperately trying to trace the driver and now fears she has been left with "life-changing" injuries.

The 32-year-old had stopped at traffic lights on Kilbowie Road around 4.45pm on Sunday when a vehicle crashed into the back of her red Ford Focus.

Mum-of-two Michelle was left dazed as the smash set off the emergency crash mode and the other car completely took off her bumper before fleeing.

She has now been left in agony with the injuries she sustained, Glasgow Live reports.

She said: "I was stationery and the first person at the lights. Before I knew it, there was a big bang. I hit my head off the back of the head rest and I think the front too. I have a huge bruise on my forehead.

"I was completely disorientated. I looked up and saw a dark grey car manoeuvre around me and sped off.

"I'm glad my kids weren't in the car."

Michelle attended A&E at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where it was confirmed she had whiplash and concussion.

The next day she received a phone call from a consultant who told her she had fractured her lower spine after re-examining her X-rays.

As she recovers at home, she fears her injuries may have an impact on her future.

"I'm in agony. I'm in a lot of pain. I can't keep comfortable. I struggle to sit and stand for long.

"I am an A&E nurse which is a physically demanding job. I am on my feet for 12 hours. I am worried about my recovery and whether I will. be able to go back to work."

The mum has made a plea for the driver to "do the right thing and get in touch."

She added: "I wish they would come forward. Accidents happen, I do get that. Maybe they got a fright and drove off. But don't be a coward. I'm stressed about the insurance on top of my injuries.

If they are out and about driving dangerously, they could potentially hit someone else."

Michelle urges anyone who may have information or CCTV footage to get in touch with Police Scotland.

The car is believed to be an Audi or a Volkswagen.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Around 4.50pm on Sunday, July 4, officers were called to the Kilbowie Road area of Clydebank, following a report of a road crash involving a grey car and a red Ford Focus.

"There were no reports of serious injuries at the scene. The car is believed to have left the area following the incident and enquiries to establish the circumstances are at an early stage.”
