Scots dry cleaners star-struck after repairing Harry Styles' clothes for tour

A Scots dry cleaning business was surprised to be asked by Harry Styles' team if it could dry clean and repair outfits for the megastar ahead of his gigs at Murrayfield.

Staff at Needle and Thread on Edinburgh's Telford Road said they were "shocked" to receive a call from a firm asking if they could urgently repair some clothes. They only found out they were repairing clothes for the ex-One Directioner and his backing dancers when the outfits arrived on May 25.

Chloe Barnes, 25, of the dry cleaners, told Edinburgh Live that the experience was a "total fangirl moment" for her as a 1D fan growing up. Extra care had to be taken to ensure outfits, which were designed by Gucci, weren't damaged during the dry cleaning process.

Chloe said: "Harry's team contacted us on Thursday – a courier team approached us at the shop and asked if we could urgently do a few repairs and dry clean some outfits. We didn't know at this point we were about to be cleaning a global star's outfits for his show.

"The couriers were over the moon that we could do it for them in such a short space of time. At first we received two outfits for Harry himself and then we got around seven or eight outfits for the dancers to be dry cleaned.

"We couldn't believe it. We were shocked that we were touching the Harry Styles' showbiz outfits.

"I was a massive fan of One Direction when I was growing up and as you can imagine this was a total 'fangirl moment.'"

She added that the pressure "was really on" to get the outfits ready on time and to a world-class standard. But the firm, which has experience looking after outfits for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and high-flying clients at a number of Edinburgh hotels, was more than up to the task.

Chloe continued: "As you can see all his outfits are amazing, full of glitz and glam. The sequins and beads had to all be individually checked to ensure nothing was damaged in the process of dry cleaning.

"We had two Harry Styles outfits and about seven or eight dancer outfits. Everything was designed by Gucci, Harry's trousers even had a personalised waistband. It was surreal.

"But due to building such a great team at work, it has allowed us to work together to ensure no amount of pressure gets us stressed so that we always deliver a world class service that never slips.

"We are active on Facebook and word-of-mouth is a huge bonus for us, but a lot of our customers have been loyal since we opened and continue to use us on a weekly basis. This means the world to our business as maintaining a strong, reliable local business is our main priority."

Styles, 29, delighted thousands with his two-night run of shows at Murrayfield on May 26 and 27. The second show shattered records as Scotland's biggest ever live performance, with 65,000 people packing into the rugby stadium to hear the Watermelon Sugar hitmaker belt out his hits.
