Scots drink driver caught 'five times over the limit' by cops

A driver was allegedly caught at five times the limit while behind the wheel on a Scots road.

Police stopped the motor on the A79 Prestwick loop road near to the Monktonhead Roundabout at Monkton around 8pm on Saturday April 3.

They suspected the 52-year-old to be driving under the influence.

He was breath-tested with the test coming back positive before the man was arrested.

On arriving at a custody suite, the man was then allegedly found to be more than five times over the drink drive limit.

In Scotland the drink drive limit is 22 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The man is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal and will appear in court at a later date.

Sergeant Ian Thornton, Ayrshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Those who drink and drive risk their own life and that of other road users.

“Road Policing and local officers patrol the roads across Ayrshire on a daily basis and will not hesitate to stop a vehicle if they have suspicions about a driver’s fitness to drive or the condition of a vehicle.

“Those found guilty of drink driving risk a prison sentence or a fine and will almost certainly lose their driving licence. They may also have their vehicle forfeited.

"This has obvious consequences for work and family life, as well as potential significant financial implications.

“The simple message is don't drink and drive; you will be caught!”
