Scots charity lines up alongside stars for role in hit TV series House of the Dragon

A team of actors and battle re-enactment specialists from Stirling have hit the screens this month in the new Game of Thrones epic spin-off – House of the Dragon.

Members of Combat International, a part of the Clanranald Trust, are currently starring in the hit blockbuster series alongside actors Matt Smith and Paddy Considine.

The fantasy saga is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and focuses on the Targaryen family.

Combat International are no strangers to starring in historical action series and films, having previously appeared in productions such as Gladiator, Outlander and Outlaw King.

The team help producers and stars accurately recreate fighting styles and the look of warriors from many different eras and countries.

Clanranald Trust chief executive, Charlie Allan, this week detailed their last screen appearance to the Observer.

The team filmed scenes for House of the Dragon at Holywell Bay, Cornwall almost a year ago.

Filming and offering their expertise on the battle scenes saw the team stay in Cornwall for around a week as they appeared alongside Matt Smith, as Daemon Targaryen, and Steve Toussaint, as Corlys Velaryon.

Charlie said: “We then spent two and a half weeks between sets at the Warner Brothers’ Studios in Leavesden, Watford, home of the Harry Potter World and main stage to many of the major DC films’ green screen work.

“There we worked with Matt and Steve again as well as a range of other cast members from episodes three and four particularly.

“We were asked down by Rowley Irlam (stunt co-ordinator) after we made contact. Rowley we had worked together on previous productions such as Thor: The Dark World, Robin Hood and Snow White and the Huntsman.

“We had a team of 16 Combat International and it’s training academy and agency across the most part of a month between various locations.”

House of the Dragon has been already renewed for a season 2 and a rumoured third series is also said to be in the works.

The Clanranald Trust is a recognised charity and is an educational organisation established in 1995. It is currently based at Duncarron Medieval Village – a full-scale replica of a fortified village – in the Carron Valley. The charity and medieval village has won favour with Hollywood A-lister Russell Crowe over the years.

House of the Dragon currently airs on Sky Atlantic, at 2am on Sunday, or repeated at 9pm on Monday.
