Scots actress Sharon Rooney opens up on starring in new Barbie movie and how it's taught her major life lesson

Scots actress Sharon Rooney has opened up about starring in Barbie The Movie and says the film has 'taught her you can do anything'.

The 34-year-old, who is known for her role in Two Doors Down, landed the role of 'Lawyer Barbie' in the blockbuster film which stars Margot Robbie as the titular character and Ryan Gosling as Ken.

The live-action romantic comedy based on the eponymous fashion doll line by Mattel is due for release in cinemas next month.

Speaking to Rollacoaster Magazine, the Glasgow actress said her role was a dream come true and has taught her as a woman you can do anything.

She said: "I think what Barbie’s taught me is that you can do anything and be everything because she’s a woman who – literally – does everything.

"I’d really love to write something of my own. I see how clever Greta [Gerwig] is and how wonderful she is and such an amazing actress, but she also is a phenomenal director. And Margot [Robbie] as well, she's an outrageously brilliant actress, but she's also got a fantastic production company.

She added: "Barbie’s been a brilliant job to be surrounded by people like that who are working so hard but are all just really good people. In summary, Barbie’s taught me a lot about just going for it and believing.”

Sharon is not the only Scots star appearing in the movie as Ncuti Gatwa, who is set to be the new Doctor Who, also landed a role as 'another Ken'.

When he announced the role, he shared a snap of him in costume and wrote: Wanna go for a ride?….Well you’ll have to wait until July 21st but it’ll be thee most fun you’ve had. Promise."

While much of the plot for Greta Gerwig's Barbie blockbuster has been kept under wraps, the film synopsis reads: "After being expelled from Barbieland for being a less than perfect-looking doll, Barbie sets off for the human world to find true happiness."

Barbie The Movie is out in cinemas on July 21.
