Scotland's opponents throw World Cup curveball as 25-goal striker dumped from squad

Morocco has surprisingly dumped their World Cup hero Youssef En-Nesyri from their final squad to face Scotland.

The African champions warmed up for the USA tournament with a behind-closed-doors 5-0 friendly win against Burundi before manager Mohamed Ouahbi named his 26-man squad for the tournament.

But there was no place for Al-Ittihad ace En-Nesyri, who scored the famous goal that eliminated Portugal in the quarter finals four years ago in Qatar, which helped Morocco become the first-ever African nation to reach the World Cup semi finals.

Ouahbi said: "This squad had proved one thing to me - we have a huge amount of talent in Morocco.

"It was the most difficult decision in my life and if I could have named 30 or 40 players, I would have. The players who have missed out this time remain very much in my plans for games later this year.

"I can promise the Morocco fans, we will do everything in our power to make you proud of the country again."

Scotland face Morocco in Boston in the second game of the group, with the Atlas Lions also handing a call-up to Lille ace Ayyoub Bouaddi, who switched international allegiances from France and was only granted FIFA approval last week.
