Scotland XI v Austria confirmed as Aberdeen star handed first start

Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson has been selected to start for Scotland for the first time by head coach Steve Clarke.

The former Kilmarnock boss has taken his team to Vienna tonight for a final friendly ahead of June's World Cup play-off matches.

Ferguson - who hails from Hamilton - is making his maiden start for his country as part of five changes made to the starting XI from Thursday's 1-1 draw with Poland.

The midfield duo of Callum McGregor and Billy Gilmour swap out for Ryan Jack and the Hamilton academy graduate. Stuart Armstrong and Jack Hendry also come in for Ryan Christie and Scott McTominay.

Andy Robertson returns in the place of Greg Taylor in Clarke's other change. Kieran Tierney of Muirhouse is also in the starting XI, with Wishaw's Stephen O'Donnell on the bench, along with Cambuslang's Kenny McLean.

Scotland Starting XI : Gordon; Patterson, Hendry, Hanley, Tierney, Robertson; Jack, Ferguson; McGinn, Adams, Armstrong.

Subs: Clark, Kelly, McTominay, O'Donnell, McGregor, Dykes, Christie, Gilmour, Halkett, Hickey, Brown, Taylor.

Austria Starting XI : Bachmann, Ulmer, Dragovic, Hinteregger, Ilsanker, Arnautovic, Sabitzer, Kalajdzic, Baumgartner, Laimer, Lazaro.
