Scotland women in bizarre rubber chicken warm-up ahead of World Cup clash with Japan

Scotland's World Cup stars are prepared to do whatever it takes to recover from the opening game defeat to England - including an unorthodox game of 'chicken'.

Scotland face Japan in their second match this Friday, looking to pick up their first points of the tournament against a much-fancied side, who underwhelmed in their 0-0 draw with Argentina last time out.

In order to get the better of the 2011 winners, it seems manager Shelley Kerr has decided that conventional methods won't get the job done, as she has done away with the footballs to get her side training with a rubber chicken.

Video footage shows the likes of Erin Cuthbert, Kim Little and the rest of the Scotland stars heavily invested in two possession-based games, of which the rules are indiscernible from the 25 second clip, with the chicken acting as some sort of hot potato.

Scotland's line up against England. Back Row (L-R): Caroline Weir, Nicola Docherty, Lee Alexander, Jenny Beattie, Rachel Corsie, Sophie Howard Front Row (L-R): Erin Cuthbert, Chrsitie Murray, Kim Little, Lisa Evans, Claire Emslie (SNS Group)

The intention of the drill eludes us, but if leads to a positive result against Japan, then it might prove to be a stroke of managerial genius from Kerr, who still harbours hopes of her side making the last 16 despite the defeat to England.

The tie with Japan comes before their final game with Argentina, and while a win on Friday would put them in pole position to secure second place, a draw would mean they only have to better Japan's result in the final game to be guaranteed passage into the knockout stages.

They could also still qualify with a third-placed finish, provided they are one of the four best third-placed sides in the competition, but given how high spirits look to be in the camp, they won't be thinking about that eventuality just yet.
