Scotland wants to ease lockdown by May 28

Scotland's First Minister would like to start easing some of the lockdown restrictions by May 28.

Nicola Sturgeon said at her daily briefing on Monday that if progress is made by the end of the month some sporting events could be allowed, garden centres would be open and people would be allowed to meet those from other households, provided social distancing is followed.

The changes could be made after the next review date which will be on May 28.

The Scottish First Minister has also confirmed that testing will be available to anyone with symptoms over the age of five.

And a "route map" like the traffic light system announced in Wales last week, will be published on Thursday with the paths out of lockdown revealed.

No dates were given in Wales as the Welsh Government's plan is to move from lockdown to red, to amber and to green slowly.

But, Ms Sturgeon said the reproduction rate of the virus will be outlined, along with taking into account the findings of the weekly National Records of Scotland (NRS) report.

If these keep improving then changes could be made by the end of the month.

Scotland's First Minister also said that more will be said about when schools might re-open.

A total of 2,105 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus, up by two from 2,103 on Sunday, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

Speaking at the latest Scottish Government coronavirus briefing in Edinburgh, the First Minister said there are 1,427 patients in hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid-19, up 119 from 1,308 on Sunday.

Of these, 63 were in intensive care, a rise of four.

She issued a note of caution over the death figures, saying although deaths can be registered at the weekend, registrations tend to be lower.
