Scotland to see 'fresher' weather forecast replacing stifling humidity this week

The muggy weather blighting Scotland will be clearing today, forecasters say. More refreshing conditions will arrive after strong winds and showers swept in overnight Wednesday.

It's been a humid week, but BBC Scotland Weather forecasters say it will turn fresher through Wednesday as the wind moves into the northwest, bringing a welcome break from the muggy weather.

Temperatures will be warm again today - though not near the 28C predicted in London - with highs of 19C in Edinburgh, 21C in Glasgow, and 22C in Aberdeen.

BBC meteorologist Gillian Smart said: "It will turn fresh through today as the wind moves into the northwest. Into this afternoon showers become a bit more isolated. There will be more in the way of sunshine coming through.

"Not as warm as yesterday though still highs of 21C for eastern Scotland. Those northwesterly winds lending a fresher feel to things."

Thursday will see a showery start and heavy rain in eastern Scotland, but the rain will clear for a mix of sunny spells, scattered showers, and a cooler feel, says Smart.

The Met Office says this weekend in Scotland the weather will kick off with sunny spells on Friday, cloudier skies and some rain in the west on Saturday, and then dry and warmer conditions on Sunday.

Met Office five-day forecast

A band of cloud and increasingly patchy light rain and drizzle will slowly move southeastwards across England. Sunny spells developing, and turning hot in the far southeast, else less humid than recently. Fresher further northwest with sunshine and showers.

Tonight:

Bursts of showery rain affecting Northern Ireland and Scotland, heavy in places. Dry elsewhere with clear spells, and somewhat cooler then recent nights.

Thursday:

Dry with sunny spells in the south and feeling much fresher, though still warm. Scattered showers further north, especially across northern Scotland where some may be heavy.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Generally dry with spells of sunshine. Temperatures around average, but with chilly nights initially, becoming warmer later. Chance of some rain or showers at times for Northern Ireland and Scotland.
