Scotland supporters have been shuttled to the Gillette Stadium in Boston for the World Cup opener against Haiti on school buses.

Yellow school buses have been pictured at the stadium ahead of the Group C tie with members of the Tartan Army arriving in style.

Supporters hired a fleet of 20 school buses in a bid to avoid using pricey Boston transport links for the match.

Speaking to the BBC, Davy Hood explained: "We came up with the idea of 'what about these school buses?

"We thought maybe if the schools are off, the buses will be sitting idle.

"We got in touch with a couple of companies who came back with prices that suited us."

Supporters using transport from Boston to the stadium, in Foxborough, face prices of $80 for a train and $90 for a bus.

Instead, a heap of fans choose to devise their own plan to contact schools to request use of their buses for transport to match, working out at around $38.

A police convoy was also organised for the buses heading to the Gillette Stadium for the match.

Scotland face Haiti in a 2am kick-off (UK time) as they end 28 long years out of the World Cup finals picture.

The first fixture is a huge one for Steve Clarke's side with the possibility for teams to qualify from the group stage with just three points as one of the best-placed third-placed sides in the expanded 48-team tournament.

With Morocco and Brazil also in Group C, Haiti has been earmarked by many as Scotland's clearest opportunity to pick up three points.

And it would stand them in good stead heading into the following group stage matches for a shot at automatic qualification.

FIFA’s official guidelines on qualification from the group stage read as follows: “Every team will face each of their group opponents once, with three points awarded for a win and one apiece for a draw.

“The two teams with the most points in each group will progress to the Round of 32, where they will be joined by the eight best third-placed sides.”

Scotland face Morocco next Friday and then Brazil on Wednesday, June 24. Both matches kick-off at 11pm UK time.
