Scotland's snow forecast for November as Met Office issues exact dates

Scotland's snow forecast for this month has been revealed - and it's very likely some flurries will fall.

November could be starting with a four-day chill as an 800-mile wide “Arctic plume” is likely to bring snow up north.

Temperatures are set to drop to near freezing in parts of Scotland this week with nighttime highs of just 2C in the central belt, according to the Met Office.

The icy change in temperatures may mean that snow is on its way, with frost also likely.

And the Daily Star is reporting an "Arctic plume" will hit the country as we approach the first weekend of November.

Attention also turns to the third week of this month, which forecasters say could see some snow.

Looking ahead from November 15 to November 29, the Met Office forecasting agency is increasingly confident we will see "wintry showers" hit parts of the country.

Snow has already fallen in the Scottish hills this year, with the white stuff likely to be present in more areas of Scotland later this month.

Areas of Aberdeenshire will see snow and temperatures as low as -2C from today, reports the Met Office.

The chilly temperature are set to continue for the rest of the week throughout the country.

A Met Office forecaster said: “After a wet and windy Halloween with a deep Atlantic low pressure system and damaging winds, it turns colder into the new week.”

John Hammond, of weathertrending, said: “The drop of 10C or more will be quite a shock as temperatures tumble after such warm conditions recently.

“Blustery northwesterly winds will make it feel chillier, with snow possible on northern mountains and perhaps to lower levels, with overnight frost possibly becoming more widespread.

“Atlantic fronts are expected to bring rain from the west by the weekend.”

The forecast comes as bookmakers slash their odds on a 'White Christmas' this year.

Scotland has not seen snow on the ground on Christmas Day since 2015, but William Hill's odds on a white Christmas now stand as low as 4/1.

Edinburgh Airport is amongst the current favourites, meaning Scots could be treated to a snow-filled Christmas this year.
