Scotland forced to wait to seal Euro 2024 qualification

Scotland will have to wait until October for the chance to seal Euro 2024 qualification after Group A results did not go in the favour of Steve Clarke's side.

The national team could have sealed a spot in Germany without even playing in qualifying had Norway and Georgia drawn in their fixture.

However, a 2-1 win for Norway means Clarke's men must wait until next month for a chance to seal a spot at the tournament finals.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring for his country after 25 minutes before Arsenal's Martin Odegaard doubled the lead just eight minutes later. Budu Zivzivadze pulled one back for Gerogia in stoppage time but it was little more than a consolation.

In the other match in Group A, Spain cruised to a 6-0 victory over Cyprus. Strikes Gavi, Mikel Merino, Joselu, Alex Baena and a double from Ferran Torres ensured a comfortable win for Luis de la Fuente's side.

Despite not playing in qualifying on Tuesday, Scotland remain top of the group on 15 points with a flawless record after five outings.

Spain sit six points adrift on nine points with Norway third on seven after their win over Georgia.

The Georgians have just four points after five matches with Cyprus at the foot of the table with zero points.

Scotland travel to Spain next month for their latest Euro 2024 qualifier. The national team then faces Georgia away and Norway at Hampden in the final group stage fixtures in November.
