Scotland Food & Drink launches online workshops to get businesses into ecommerce

Scotland Food & Drink is organising online workshops to help businesses sell produce online and mitigate the effects of lockdown.

The industry body's free classes will provide training for businesses that are new to ecommerce. The UK’s online grocery market is forecast to grow by 33% in 2020 to an estimated value of £16.8 billion and in April 2020, online spending on all food and drink in the UK increased by 24.6%.

The workshops will run from 2 June throughout the month and into July, and follow-up one-to-one sessions with expert advisors will be available.

Lucy Husband, UK market development director at Scotland Food & Drink, said: “Since lockdown began, many businesses found their route to market severed overnight, so innovating is essential for the survival of food and drink businesses across Scotland.

“For smaller, especially artisanal food and drink producers, starting to sell products online can be a daunting task, which is why we are offering the series of free workshops and one-to-one support.

“Businesses of all shapes and sizes contribute to the health and success of the industry overall and providing crucial support for smaller producers is essential if we want to continue to thrive.”
