SCOTLAND is leading the way in the UK when it comes to providing the infrastructure for eco-friendly motoring, according to research.
The study by vehicle finance provider Moneybarn found there were just 3.32 ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs) for every electric charging connector north of the Border.
That was closely followed by the north-east of England with a figure of 3.39 and London on 3.82. In contrast, the West Midlands has a shocking 17.4 ULEVs for every charging connector.
But there are now about 10,650 electric charging locations across the UK compared with 8400 petrol stations.
However, only 23 per cent of all connectors offer a rapid or ultra-rapid speed. This means only a small number of charging devices provide a charging time between 20-40 minutes, which could disrupt motorists’ journeys, especially if they’re short on time.
Nonetheless, Moneybarn marketing boss Tim Schwarz said: “It’s great to see the UK continuing to develop its EV infrastructure.”
