Scotland and England fans get in 'scuffle' while bagpipes play at army barracks

This footage shows the appalling moment Scotland and England fans came into conflict at the UK's biggest army base - all the while Scotland's national instrument, the bagpipes, plays on in the background.

The video shows rival fans jeering at each other from opposite sides of Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, before things took a sinister turn last week.

A group of England supporters were filming chanting Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) towards another set of supporters who were singing back from an adjacent building at the barracks.

Scotland fans, donned in kilts and Scotland tops, then descended on these fans and tried to drown out the singing with bagpipes.

The piper belted out Scotland the Brave continuously as they were surrounded by the kilted Scotland fans.

The video clip then switches to footage taken seconds later which shows the two groups of men involved in a violent brawl with each other.

Around a dozen men, most of them in Scotland tops and kilts, surround an England supporter as they huddle and push each other in order to reach him.

The man, who covers himself with an England flag in the video, was then filmed curled up on the floor as an unidentified male kicks him in the back and stomach.

The attacker then continues to swing and punch at him, catching him in the face as the man tries to cover himself with his hands and the flag.

The same piper continues his rendition of Scotland the Brave in the background as the fight ensues.

The initial footage of the supporters chanting was shared far and wide on social media on Wednesday, and was followed up by the video of the brawl.

An British Army spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident last week in Catterick. We will assist with any enquiry.

"If any soldiers have been found to not be meeting our Values & Standards, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

"Service Police are investigating and it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this stage.”
