Scoring streak Everton looking to continue against Aston Villa and Friday night omen suggests they will

Everton have a chance to go top of the Premier League on Friday night when they face Aston Villa.

Just two games of the domestic season have been played so far but the Blues are the only team in the top-flight yet to concede a goal, after a draw against Crystal Palace and 1-0 win over Watford.

They are joint third on points with six other teams, including Manchester City, after only Arsenal and Liverpool won their first two games of the campaign.

Aston Villa vs Everton: Last five games at Villa Park

Playing on Friday night gives Marco Silva's men a chance to take the outright lead in the league with a win at Villa Park and no other teams playing until the following day.

And the signs look good for the Toffees to do exactly that.

Everton have scored two or more goals in each of their last eight Premier League encounters with Aston Villa (22 goals); their longest such scoring streak against a single team in the competition.

Meanwhile the Blues have won five and lost just one of their last eight matches in the domestic competition held on a Friday (W5 D2 L1) - losing only to Stoke City in this run in December 2014.

And to add to all of that, Everton have only lost two of their last 37 games against newly-promoted opposition, winning 22 and drawing 13.
