Scorching heatwave to hit next week with highs of 30C in some areas

It looks like the thunder storms and rain we saw this week will be a distant memory in a matter of days.

The weather is set to heat up throughout England and Wales next week, as forecasters say the temperatures will rise day by day.

On next week's weather, the Met Office tweeted: "Warmer weather on the way for much of England and Wales next week #Hot continental air will bring temperatures close to 30 Celsius in the south."

What's more, Wednesday is expected to be the hottest day of the year so far, with highs of 30C in the south.

The current record for this year was set on May 20, when the mercury reached 28.2C at Santon Downham in Suffolk.

This beat the previous record set just the day before when London’s St James’s Park recorded a high of 26.2C.

Sky News weather presenter Isobel Lang said: "There will be a fresher change this weekend as an Atlantic low-pressure system sweeps in a band of rain, clearing on Sunday morning to be replaced by sunshine and showers.

"The showers will be concentrated across the North and West.

"The week ahead will then see temperatures bounce up quickly to bring what is likely to be the warmest spell of the year so far."
