School bus services disrupted in Fermanagh and Tyrone due to driver shortages and Covid

A number of school bus routes across Co Fermanagh and Co Tyrone will not run on Wednesday as a result of driver shortages and Covid 19, the Education Authority has said.

Six different bus routes will be affected by the disruption, with the EANI apologising for any inconvenience caused.

Several areas across Co Fermanagh have been affected by the disruption, with services from Newtownbutler, Derrylin, Derrygonnelly, Tempo and Fivemiletown to multiple primary and post-primary schools in the region.

The full list of routes which will not operate on 1 September is:

  • F045 from Newtownbutler serving Maguiresbridge PS, St Mary’s PS (Maguiresbridge), St Ronan’s PS, Bunscoil an Traonaigh, St Kevin’s College & Enniskillen post primary schools

  • F049 from Derrylin serving St Ninnidh’s PS, St Nailes PS & St Aidan’s HS.

  • F051 from Newtownbutler serving Newtownbutler PS, St Mary’s PS (Newtownbutler), St Mary’s PS (Maguiresbridge) & St Kevin’s College

  • F061 from Derrygonnelly serving St Patrick’s PS (Derrygonnelly), Killyhommon PS & Enniskillen post primary schools

  • F099 from Fivemiletown serving St Mary’s PS (Fivemiletown), St Mary’s PS (Brookeborough), Brookeborough PS & St Kevin’s College

It is not yet clear whether these will routes will resume operation on Thursday 2 September.

“Unfortunately, a number of routes in the Fermanagh and Fivemiletown area will not be running on 1 September due to driver shortages as a result of disruption caused by the Covid pandemic,” a spokesperson for the Education Authority said.

“EA has worked extremely hard to deliver essential services, such as transport, throughout the COVID pandemic.

“However, like many essential services we continue to experience challenges. We make every effort to prevent services being affected, however issues can arise at extremely short notice and it may not always be possible to put in place alternative transport arrangements.

“Where this is the case we do our best to communicate any disruption and would apologise for any inconvenience.

“We greatly appreciate the continued support of schools, parents, our staff and transport operators during this time and will continue to do all that we can to deliver this essential service for pupils.
