Scare for favourite Marlen Reusser after a crash during the opening stage of the Tour de France Femmes

Marlen Reusser (Movistar) suffered a brief scare during the opening stage of the Tour de France Femmes after crashing through a right-hand corner in the closing kilometres of the race into Lausanne.

Reusser was in the main peloton, surrounded by her Movistar teammate, when she crashed through the corner with 21.3km to go.

Her teammate, Arlenis Sierra, was the first to crash, and Reusser could not avoid the accident. The Swiss rider flipped over her handlebars, as the pair slid into the curb.

Both riders were able to get back on their bikes and left chasing. One more rider, Sara Martin, dropped back out of the peloton to assist the pair and help them reconnect to the main field.

Reusser was back in the peloton with 17km to go.
