Scammers can now place fake messages into real Bank of Ireland text threads

Bank of Ireland has sent emails out to its customers warning of a rise in scams targeting them.

Fraudsters can now place scam texts into the threads of genuine Bank of Ireland text messages.

With Black Friday and Christmas less than 10 weeks away, the bank has urged customers to be careful when shopping online.

It was reported last March that 55% of customers had been on the receiving end of scam emails, texts or calls claiming to be from their bank.

Unfortunately, new figures released show that number has increased in recent months to 61%.

Because of this, Bank of Ireland has reminded customers of the contact you should expect from the bank.

BOI will never text, call or email customers asking for the full 365 pin or one-time passcode.

Other advice includes keeping your pin safe - never give anyone your PIN or any code that the bank sends you.

Customers are urged to report suspicious texts to 365security@boi.com and then delete the text.

Bank Of Ireland recently confirmed a number of closures across the country including eight in Dublin.

They are:

  • James Street
  • Law Library
  • Phibsboro
  • Ballycoolin
  • Killester
  • Merrion Road
  • Rathmines
  • Ballyfermot
