Savvy mum's genius tip to make a homemade Chinese takeaway for 63p

When it comes to money saving, one of the easiest wins is to stop spending so much on takeaways and eating out.

But while it sounds like a good idea in theory, not being able to enjoy a cheat day every now and again can feel you leaving miserable - especially when the weather outside is so miserable.

However, one clever mum has come up with a recipe to make an entire Chinese fakeaway at home, and it only costs £2.55 for the entire family - or 64p each.

The idea, which was thought up by Glasgow resident Maryann Laing, was shared on a popular Facebook group where people can share their favourite budget meals.

Maryann bought a large chicken from Aldi - and she says it can be split into 3 meals (Supplied)

Posting in the Facebook group, Maryann said: "Who needs to spend 20 quid on a takeaway when you can have all this for 64p each!"

She said: "I bought a large chicken from Aldi £3.89 and cooked it in the oven. Then I cut all the meat off (and I mean ALL the meat) and divided in to 3 meals. One meal of sliced breast for tomorrows Sunday Roast. One meal of leg and thigh meat which went in to tonight's curry.

"And the smaller one was what was left on the carcass, underneath the chicken plus the wings. This will be added to a pasta bake and I will grill the skin and break over the pasta bake for a crispy topping!"

Each portion costs pennies (Supplied)

She continued: "So the chicken split in to 3 meals works out around £1.30 a meal.

"Chinese curry powder I used around a quarter tub so approx 25p. Added an onion and mushrooms for 25p. Egg fried rice using cheap rice, a sprinkle of soya sauce and 1 large egg (say) 25p.

"Air fried some freezer fries and then pan fried in a pan with salt and pepper seasoning (say) 50p."

Maryann explained: "The prices are estimated based on how much I used and roughly what the products cost but might actually be less than this (shouldn't be more if you buy shops own brands).

So that's chicken curry, egg fried rice and salt and pepper chips for 4 for a grand total of £2.55! So much cheaper than a takeaway and so easy to make since the chicken was already cooked. 2 servings plated up tonight and a photo of what's left for lunches during the week. Definitely another 2 portions at least!"

Now that's what you call a fakeaway!
